The results from the DELIVER and DAPA-HF phase III trials indicated that the AstraZeneca’s Drug dapagliflozin was beneficial in reducing the primary composite endpoint of mortality due to cardiovascular diseases or deteriorating heart failure (HF) to a significant level .

The company stated that there are different types of HF-related ejection fraction (EF) that impact roughly 64 million people worldwide. With few therapeutic choices, half of the patients suffered from reduced or retained EF. Dapagliflozin showed a significant improvement among patients with heart failure  included in the trial. FDA had already authorized the use of  Dapagliflozin for treating type 2 diabetes, HFrEF, and chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Experts stated that both DELIVER and DAPA-HF trials reveal dapagliflozin is beneficial in treating heart failure regardless of ejection fraction, and they add to prior studies showing cardiorenal protection in patients with diabetes, chronic kidney disease, or heart failure. The complete and detailed results of the DELIVER Phase III trial will be presented at an upcoming medical meeting, and regulatory filings will be made in the coming months.
